The talented scientist Popov understands that the universe is alive. Electrons are special microbes of consciousness. But this life flows so slowly that everything does not seem alive to people. The scientist looks for a way to speed up this process and show mankind that the universe is alive. After Popov solves the riddle, he commits suicide. His student Kirpichnikov receives only part of the truth, written down by the deceased on a piece of paper. For Kirpichnikov, love and family are not enough. He goes to America, wandering the world in search of something that can reflect for a moment his soul and direct him to the right thought. The hero believes that each of the philosophers wanted to get to the truth, but it has always eluded him. The student meets one genius who got to the truth of the wave nature of thoughts. According to her, if you think about something in a concentrated way, the thought will interact with electrons and matter. As a result, man would be able to control trees, stars, thunderstorms, and more. In America, he learns that his wife is looking for him, and she is ready to commit suicide if Kirpichnikov does not return. He boards a ship, but it crashes. After a while, when his son grows up, he ends up solving the riddle.

В Америке он узнает, что его ищет жена, и она готова покончить жизнь самоубийством, если Кирпичников не вернётся. Тот садиться на корабль, но тот терпит крушение. Через какое-то время, когда его сын подрастает, то он заканчивает решение загадки.
