The show opened with a laser show, and models looking like wired avatars and robots walked down a mirrored catwalk and shone in the dark. Studio van der Graaf was responsible for the lighting elements in the collection. Before going on the catwalk, the models were warned: “Try not to sweat, otherwise you will simply be electrocuted.”
In 1893, philanthropist and matriarch of one of the most influential high society families of the city, Alice Vanderbilt, came to a costume ball in New York in the image of an electric Statue of Liberty (instead of a torch there was a light bulb). But for obvious reasons, there was no talk of larger-scale experiments with such costumes. Starting in the late 1930s, there was talk in America about women's clothing with temperature regulation, which remained just an idea - the skirt turning into a heating pad did not ignite anyone's minds.
Hussein Chalayan SS 2007 «One Hundred And Eleven»
In the SS 2007 collection, Chalayan brought fashion history to the audience through mechanized dresses, updating each outfit on stage in 20th-century style to modern standards. “I wanted to prove that my approach wasn’t something to be afraid of, that people could wear these things,” he explained to Vogue.

At the start of the Hussein Chalayan FW 2007 show, the house lights were turned off and a model emerged from the darkness wearing a dress adorned with 15,400 LED lights reflecting off Swarovski crystals. The collection became the designer's commentary on the relationship between man and machines.
Edison electric
In 1884, a fashion magazine wrote: “There is now a special fashion abroad for men to wear an Edison electric pin instead of a pin, that is, a pin whose head forms an elegant light bulb. Anyone who has such a light bulb pinned to his tie wears with you in your vest pocket a small battery [yes, with two "t" - so in the original - author's note]. When pressed with a finger, the light bulb lights up. This custom Enlighted jacket was created by Janet Hansen for Ashraf Habibullah, CEO of Computers and Structures, Inc.
Ashraf wears these LED jackets at his company's annual gala, and he also uses them at a variety of conferences and speaking engagements.
Hussein Chalayan - laser dress 2008
Furthering his technological trend, Chalayan unveiled the collection entitlled Readings, on screen, eshewing the conventional runway. The dresses themselves are highly structured, creating bold silhouettes from which the laser beams radiate. They are embellished with Swarovski crystals that either deflect the lasers, or take in their light, depending on the angle of the laser. The effect is hauntingly beautiful; where lasers shine directly into Swarovski crystals, they resemble glowing embers, yet where they are deflected the laser beams project into the surrounding space, evoking phantasmagorical new-age sun gods.

Шоу открылось лазерным шоу, и модели, похожие на проводных аватаров и роботов, шли по зеркальному подиуму и сияли в темноте. За элементы освещения в коллекции отвечала студия van der Graaf. Перед выходом на подиум моделей предупредили: «Старайтесь не вспотеть, иначе вас просто ударит током».

Продолжая свой технологический тренд, Чалаян представил на экране коллекцию под названием Readings, отказавшись от традиционного подиума. Сами платья хорошо структурированы, создавая смелые силуэты, от которых исходят лазерные лучи. Они украшены кристаллами Сваровски, которые либо отражают лазеры, либо поглощают их свет, в зависимости от угла наклона лазера. Эффект потрясающе красив; где лазеры светят прямо на кристаллы Сваровски, они напоминают тлеющие угли, но там, где они отклоняются, лазерные лучи проецируются в окружающее пространство, напоминая фантасмагорических богов солнца нового века.
