Не оставалось сомнения, что Зирда погибла от накопления вредной радиации после многочисленных неосторожных опытов и опрометчивого применения опасных видов ядерной энергии вместо мудрого изыскания других, менее вредных.

Внизу было совершенно темно. Полесов включил нашлемную фару. Пятно света скользнуло по изрытым стенам, по остаткам развороченных приборов, по полу, покрытому слоем пыли, тонкой, как пудра. Затем Полесов увидел следы в пыли и быстро пошел, обходя нагромождения обломков, цепляясь ногами за оборванные провода. И он опять услышал, как кто-то хрипло и равномерно дышит в радиофоне.
Семьдесят лет назад по решению Всемирного Ученого Совета были заложены и пущены в порядке эксперимента четыре такие системы, четыре псевдовечных двигателя, "двигатели времени". Один на Луне — в кратере Буллиальд, и три на Земле — на Амазонке, в Антарктиде и здесь, в тайге. Потом какой-то "умник в Ученом Совете" предложил отдать готовую строительную площадку в тайге под телемеханическую мезонную лабораторию. Кто будет первым в борьбе с природой? Одно из этих открытий достигается лишь ценой жизни двух исследователей.
Громадная, нестерпимо яркая, бело-голубая вспышка сверкнула напротив,
во всю ширину громадных окон семнадцатой лаборатории. От взрывной волны
осколки стекол полетели в лицо Якову. Несколько секунд он ничего не видел
только где-то под потолком плавали тусклые точки лампочек. Что это? Он вытер

отрицательными мезонами больших энергий с тем, чтобы выяснить возможность

а после него, когда мезонатор был уже выключен из высоковольтной сети
института.
3. Взрыв произошел не в главной камере, где шло облучение мезонами, а

4. В образце нейтрида, найденном в воронке, обнаружена микроскопическая

5. Обнаружено короткие замыкание в электромагнитах, вытягивающих из

Некоторые из них весьма полезны — например, могут лечить болезни, некоторые просто странные игрушки, а некоторые — крайне опасны.
Предполагается, что Зоны созданы представителями внеземной цивилизации, и строится множество гипотез, по-разному объясняющих, что они собой представляют и каким образом нужны инопланетянам для контакта с жителями Земли. Один из героев книги, лауреат Нобелевской премии доктор Валентин Пильман, образно предполагает, что все артефакты — «пустышки», «этаки», «браслеты» — это всего лишь космический мусор, оставленный инопланетянами на планете Земля во время случайного посещения, сродни пустым банкам и бутылкам, забытым после человеческого пикника на обочине дороги.
- Послушайте, земляк. Радиант Пильмана - это совсем простая штука. Представьте себе, что вы раскрутили большой глобус и принялись палить в него из револьвера. Дырки на глобусе лягут на некую плавную кривую. Вся суть того, что вы называете моим первым серьезным открытием, заключается в простом факте: все шесть Зон Посещения располагаются на поверхности нашей планеты так, словно кто-то дал по Земле шесть выстрелов из пистолета, расположенного где-то на линии Земля-Денеб. Денеб - это альфа созвездия Лебедя, а точка на небесном своде, из которой, так сказать, стреляли, и называется радиантом Пильмана.
Поднял он голову от карты и уставился в окно. И я тоже уставился в окно. Стекла в наших окнах толстые, свинцовые, а за стеклами - Зона-матушка, вот она, рукой подать, вся как на ладони с тринадцатого этажа... Так вот посмотришь на нее - земля как земля. Солнце на нее как на всю остальную землю светит, и ничего вроде бы на ней не изменилось, все вроде бы как тринадцать лет назад. Папаша, покойник, посмотрел бы и ничего бы особенного не заметил, разве что спросил бы: чего это завод не дымит, забастовка, что ли?.. Желтая порода конусами, кауперы на солнышке отсвечивают, рельсы, рельсы, рельсы, на рельсах паровозик с платформами... Индустриальный пейзаж, одним словом. Только людей нет. Ни живых, ни мертвых. Вон и гараж виден: длинная серая кишка, ворота нараспашку, а на асфальтовой площадке грузовики стоят.
— Пикник. Представьте себе: лес, проселок, лужайка. С проселка на лужайку съезжает машина, из машины выгружаются молодые люди, бутылки, корзины с провизией, девушки, транзисторы, фото- и киноаппараты… Разжигается костер, ставятся палатки, включается музыка. А утром они уезжают. Звери, птицы и насекомые, которые всю ночь с ужасом наблюдали происходящее, выползают из своих убежищ. И что же они видят? На траву понатекло автола, пролит бензин, разбросаны негодные свечи и масляные фильтры. Валяется ветошь, перегоревшие лампочки, кто-то обронил разводной ключ. От протекторов осталась грязь, налипшая на каком-то неведомом болоте… ну и, сами понимаете, следы костра, огрызки яблок, конфетные обертки, консервные банки, пустые бутылки, чей-то носовой платок, чей-то перочинный нож, старые, драные газеты, монетки, увядшие цветы с других полян… — Я понял, — сказал Нунан. — Пикник на обочине.
— Как это ни забавно, довольно мало. Мы обнаружили много чудес. В некоторых случаях мы научились даже использовать эти чудеса для своих нужд. Мы даже привыкли к ним… Обезьяна нажимает красную кнопку — получает банан, нажимает белую — апельсин, но как раздобыть бананы и апельсины без кнопок, она не знает. И какое отношение имеют кнопки к бананам и апельсинам, она не понимает. Возьмем, скажем, "этаки". Мы научились ими пользоваться. Мы открыли даже условия, при которых они размножаются делением. Но мы до сих пор не сумели сделать ни одного этака, не понимаем, как они устроены, и, судя по всему, разберемся во всем этом не скоро… Я бы сказал так. Есть объекты, которым мы нашли применение. Мы используем их, хотя почти наверняка не так, как их используют пришельцы. Я совершенно уверен, что в подавляющем большинстве случаев мы забиваем микроскопами гвозди. Но все-таки кое-что мы применяем: "этаки", "браслеты", стимулирующие жизненные процессы… различные типы квазибиологических масс, которые произвели такой переворот в медицине… Мы получили новые транквилизаторы, новые типы минеральных удобрений, переворот в агрономии… В общем, что я вам перечисляю! Вы знаете все это не хуже меня, браслетик, я вижу, сами носите… Назовем эту группу объектов полезными. Можно сказать, что в какой-то степени человечество ими облагодетельствовано, хотя никогда не следует забывать, что в нашем эвклидовом мире всякая палка имеет два конца…
“Комиссия по расследованию” 1978
На Северной атомной электростанции происходит авария: разрушение технологического канала реактора РБМК. Сюда приезжает специальная комиссия и выясняет, что, с одной стороны, в аварии есть вина главного инженера АЭС, а с другой — явные ошибки в расчёте реактора.
“Сталкер” 1979г
Действие фильма происходит в вымышленном времени и пространстве; у героев нет имён — только прозвища. Главный герой фильма — недавно вышедший из тюрьмы человек, которого называют «Сталкер». Он живёт в бедности с женой и больной дочерью. Сталкер зарабатывает на жизнь, организуя нелегальные экспедиции в Зону, несмотря на протесты своей жены. Зона, по словам Сталкера, — место, где приблизительно за 20 лет до начала действия фильма было зарегистрировано падение метеорита. Впоследствии в районе падения начали происходить аномальные явления, стали пропадать люди. Место получило название «Зона», и стали распространяться слухи о некой таинственной комнате, где могут исполняться желания: «самые заветные, самые искренние, самые выстраданные». Зону сначала обнесли колючей проволокой, а потом оцепили военными кордонами.
“Активная зона” 1983
Действие фильма происходит в 1970-х годах в одном из атомных городов СССР. События фильма разворачиваются вокруг проблем атомных станций и атомных городов СССР.
Новый партийный секретарь АЭС ведёт борьбу с руководством атомной станции, стремящимся к достижению высоких показателей в ущерб технике безопасности и нормам эксплуатации атомного реактора. Он же ставит вопрос о недопустимости небрежного отношения к человеку в угоду автоматизации производства.
А.П. Казанцев “Бешеные дивиденды” 1984г
Повествование о том, как человек по имени Смит украл “ампулу с лекарством”, которая оказалась наполнена радиоактивным веществом. Этот поступок стоил жизни как самому Смиту, так и тем, кто случайно попал под действие излучения во время кражи.
— Контейнер поврежден?
— Да, на нем обнаружены следы взлома. Свинец — мягкий металл…
— Контейнер могли повредить где угодно.
— В том-то и дело, что представители завода грозятся доказать мою вину.
— Так пусть приезжают в пакгауз и поищут следы ампулы с помощью приборов. Есть у них там специальные счетчики.
Через два дня Отто снова позвонил ко мне на почту. Сказал, что все так или иначе попавшие под облучение, когда бедняга Смит нес похищенную ампулу, или погибли, или тяжело заболели. Железнодорожная компания убытков не понесла. Ампула использована по назначению.
