Where did this stream come from, this flooding of the whole country with unearthly singing, the beat of wings, whistling and clacking, and a whole silver stream of wonderful crazy bells that gushed from where we are not, along with children's singing and the noise of wings? ...No... Mussorgsky of the future gives a nationwide evening of his creativity, relying on radio devices in a spacious room from Vladivostok to the Baltic, under the blue walls of the sky... This evening, the witch of people, communing them to her soul, and tomorrow an ordinary mortal! He, the artist, bewitched his country; gave it the singing of the sea and the whistling of the wind! Every village and every shack will be visited by divine whistles and all the sweet bliss of sounds.
If before the Radio is used to be the world's hearing, now it is the eyes for which there is no distance. The main lighthouse of the Radio sent its rays and the Moscow exhibition of canvases by the best artists blossomed on the pages of books in the reading rooms of every village of a huge country, visiting every populated point.
Here the reading rooms darkened; and suddenly a distant singer's song was heard, the Radio threw the rays of this song to its iron singers with iron slides: sing, iron!
More submissive than the strings under the fingers of a violinist, the iron instruments of the Radio will speak and sing, obeying her volitional strokes.
In each village there will be hearing devices and an iron voice for one sense and iron eyes for another.
And now we have learned to transmit taste sensations — for a simple, rough, although healthy, lunch, the Radio will throw rays of a taste dream, the ghost of completely different taste sensations. The radio of the future will be able to act as a doctor who is healing without medicine.
It is known that some sounds like "la" and "si" raise muscle capacity sometimes sixty-four times, thickening it for a certain period of time. During the days of aggravation of labor, summer suffering, and the construction of large buildings these sounds will be sent by the Radio throughout the country raising its power many times.
And finally, the production of public education passes into the hands of the Radio. The Supreme Council of Sciences will send lessons and readings to all schools of the country — both higher and lower. The teacher will only be a companion during these readings. Daily flights of lessons and textbooks across the sky to rural schools of the country, the unification of its consciousness in a single will.
So Radio will build continuous links of the world soul and merge humanity.

Текст «Радио будущего» написан в Пятигорске осенью 1921 г., когда Хлебников числился ночным сторожем в местном отд. РОСТА. Первый вариант статьи назывался: «РОСТА будущего»: «Слово РОСТА возникло через слияние в одно слово начальных звуков следующих трех слов: „Российское Телеграфное Агентство“. У человечества те же 365 дней, как и у пещерного человека. Ему тесно в его 365 днях; не умея растянуть год, отказывается от долго звучащих слов. В этом отношении русский язык сделал смелый скачок, перейдя к кратким искусственным словам…».

Около главного стана Радио, этого железного замка, где тучи проводов рассыпались точно волосы, наверное, будет начертана пара костей, череп и знакомая надпись: «Осторожно», ибо малейшая остановка работы Радио вызвала бы духовный обморок всей страны, временную утрату ею сознания.

Откуда этот поток, это наводнение всей страны неземным пением, ударом крыл, свистом и цоканием и целым серебряным потоком дивных безумных колокольчиков, хлынувших оттуда, где нас нет, вместе с детским пением и шумом крыл? … Нет... Мусоргский будущего дает всенародный вечер своего творчества, опираясь на приборы Радио в пространном помещении от Владивостока до Балтики, под голубыми стенами неба... В этот вечер ворожа людьми, причащая их своей душе, а завтра обыкновенный смертный! Он, художник, околдовал свою страну; дал ей пение моря и свист ветра! Каждую деревню и каждую лачугу посетят божественные свисты и вся сладкая нега звуков.
Если раньше Радио было мировым слухом, теперь оно глаза, для которых нет расстояния. Главный маяк Радио послал свои лучи, и Московская выставка холстов лучших художников расцвела на страницах книг читален каждой деревни огромной страны, посетив каждую населенную точку.
Вот потемнели читальни; и вдруг донеслась далекая песня певца, железными горлами Радио бросило лучи этой песни своим железным певцам: пой, железо!
Покорнее, чем струны под пальцами скрипача, железные приборы Радио будут говорить и петь, повинуясь ее волевым ударам.
В каждом селе будут приборы слуха и железного голоса для одного чувства и железные глаза для другого.
И вот научились передавать вкусовые ощущения — к простому, грубому, хотя и здоровому, обеду Радио бросит лучами вкусовой сон, призрак совершенно других вкусовых ощущений. Люди будут пить воду, но им покажется, что перед ними вино. Сытый и простой обед оденет личину роскошного пира... Это даст Радио еще большую власть над сознанием страны...
Даже запахи будут в будущем покорны воле Радио: глубокой зимой медовый запах липы, смешанный с запахом снега, будет настоящим подарком Радио стране.
Радио будущего сумеет выступить и в качестве врача, исцеляющего без лекарства.
Известно, что некоторые звуки, как «ля» и «си», подымают мышечную способность, иногда в шестьдесят четыре раза, сгущая ее на некоторый промежуток времени. В дни обострения труда, летней страды, постройки больших зданий эти звуки будут рассылаться Радио по всей стране, на много раз подымая ее силу.
И наконец, — в руки Радио переходит постановка народного образования. Верховный совет наук будет рассылать уроки и чтение для всех училищ страны — как высших, так и низших. Учитель будет только спутником во время этих чтений. Ежедневные перелеты уроков и учебников по небу в сельские училища страны, объединение ее сознания в единой воле.
Так Радио скует непрерывные звенья мировой души и сольет человечество.
